Whether you’re looking for longer-lasting flavor or something a little stronger, there’s a better VELO alternative out there for you. We’ve put together this quick guide ranking the top 5 to help you narrow it down to the right VELO substitute. Discover the best nicotine pouches below!
Key Takeaways
- VELO Plus comes in 3mg, 6mg, and 9mg strengths across 11 flavors. 20 pouches/can.
- The best alternative of VELO depends on what you care most about: strength, flavor (quality and duration), or value for the money.
- ZEO Universe doesn’t force you to compromise on anything. Strengths from 4mg up to 12mg, tons of amazing flavors that last up to 60 minutes, and 25 pouches/can.
How Do I Choose the Right VELO Substitute?
We can’t say for certain which brand is the right VELO alternative for you, because everyone wants something a little different. Some people are searching for the strongest pouch they can pack between their lip and gum. Others crave a pouch that lasts 45 minutes or longer. Then there are those who just want the best bang for their buck.
Here’s how to narrow it down to the perfect VELO substitute.
Flavor
VELO Plus comes in 11 options, ranging from minty to fruity. While wintergreen may be the most popular, the company does make quite a few more off-the-wall flavors. Your tastes will help you find a better alternative of VELO.
That said, it’s not just about how good a pouch tastes. It’s about how long it lasts, too. This is where pouch format comes into play. Typically, a dry format will not deliver the same long-lasting flavor as a moisture-enhanced pouch. There are pouches out there that can last up to 60 minutes!
Strength
Not everyone has the same nicotine tolerance or is looking for the same type of buzz from their pouches. Some people find that the 9mg strength from VELO just doesn’t cut it. There are 12mg nicotine pouches if you want to step up a notch, and you can even find 15mg pouches these days, too! Does 6mg sound like too much, but 3mg isn’t quite doing it for you any longer? 4mg nicotine pouches are perfect.
Value
People fixate on price. But we think value matters more. Hear us out on this one.
Most nicotine pouch manufacturers sell cans of 20 pouches. Those pouches might last 45 minutes - if you’re lucky. But some VELO alternatives provide 25 pouches per can, and each pouch lasts up to 60 minutes.
Clearly, the upfront cost doesn’t tell you everything. Dig a little deeper to truly get the best bang for your buck in a VELO substitute.
Our Favorite VELO Alternatives in 2026
You can’t go wrong with any of these alternatives of VELO below. But after comparing all the different types of nicotine pouches on the market, we’ve found that ZEO Universe is the undisputed #1 choice.
1. ZEO Universe
ZEO Universe has built an entire lineup of nicotine pouches based on what most brands get wrong:
- Flavor longevity
- Strength tiers
- Value for the money
Every can comes with 25 mini-slim pouches with 30% moisture content. That’s how flavor is able to last up to 60 minutes. It’s also why the pouches feel so much more comfortable under your lip. The 5 extra pouches also mean each can lasts a little longer.
You can pick from a wide array of flavors, including Pineapple Tropic, Watermelon Wave, Mint Breeze, Berry Moonlight, Wintergreen Ice, and Menthol Evergreen. All of them taste amazing.
2. Lucy
This is a really solid VELO substitute that’s becoming more and more popular here in the United States. Lucy is best known for its Breakers, which have a burstable flavor capsule inside. Pop it and you’re greeted by an incredible rush of flavor and hydration mid-use.
Strengths range from 4mg to 12mg on the pouches. So whether you’re looking for something chill or powerful, Lucy could be just what you’re looking for. The Breakers line comes in 6 unique flavors, including Espresso if you’re a coffee lover!
3. ZYN
The obvious alternative of VELO - and one we have a more in-depth review of (check out our ZYN vs VELO breakdown for the full scoop). ZYN has long been the #1 nicotine pouch manufacturer in the world. These pouches are available pretty much everywhere.
A lot of people have felt that ZYN didn’t offer enough variety in terms of nicotine strength (just 3mg and 6mg) and that the dry format was uncomfortable/faded fast. The recent ZYN Ultra release, though, is changing that narrative with more options than ever before.
4. Rogue
Rogue is another really popular VELO substitute with 13 flavors to choose from - more than most other brands out there. There are some really off-the-wall picks like Honey Lemon, Blue Raspberry, Cinnamon, and Mango.
The standard line only features 3mg and 6mg strengths, but the Rogue Max series jumps up to 9mg and 15mg if you need a little more oomph. Check out our more in-depth review of VELO vs Rogue to learn more.
5. FRE
FRE keeps it simple with 6 flavors and 5 strengths ranging from 3mg to 15mg. There’s something for pretty much everyone. Maybe not the most exciting VELO alternative, but one worth considering nonetheless!
Find Your Alternative of VELO Based on Flavor!
One of the easiest ways to narrow it down to the right VELO replacement is by flavor:
- Best minty alternative: We think ZEO Universe makes the best alternative of VELO with the Mint Breeze flavor. Menthol Evergreen by ZEO.U is also a really great alternative for something a little chiller.
- Best fruity alternative: Fruit flavors run the gamut, so you have tons of options here. Watermelon Wave or Pineapple Tropic by ZEO Universe are great options. Rogue makes Mango and Berry if you want a milder flavor profile.
- Best off-the-wall alternative: Ice is the only alternative of VELO making habanero and chili-spiced nicotine pouches. Their Reaper X and Habanero Sunset are one-of-a-kind.
